report

We're settled down

Hi Daniel,

We're now in the campus and just want to let you know everything is OK with us! We have a temporary apartment and 2 Grad students from India at the same University, and will move out by early September. The new apartment is close to campus and has good community -- the yards, garden, and even some toys for children. One of our roommates is super nice and take care of us like babysitter.

The weather here is not bad, except the too much sunshine. It's not hot, if you can avoid the direct sunshine. It's sort of colder at night and we never need air conditioner at night this week.

The city is pretty small. There are stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreen, but no outlets stores like we have at Chicago. The nearest outlet store is about half an hour's drive and it's hard to get there by public transpiration. We'll try to share with you some pictures of us once we buy a used desktop computer tomorrow. The used desktop is cheap -- only 80 bucks for the main frame and 40 for the monitor, and the configuration is not bad -- with CPU 2.6G and 512 RAM.

How about your progress with that lovely girl? That's really a big chance and I'm eager to see you together :) Speed up!

Best,
Wei

Everything is OK

Hei Zhonghua,

We're at the Salt Lake City and everything is just OK! Can you do me a favor -- make a phone call to my dad or mom and let them know we're safe and everthing ok? I just bought a cell phone, but something goes wrong when I make a long distance call to China on this phone. So, just call my parents and assure them. My dad's phone number: 13339397736, and my mum's is 13353143053. I'll call them once I address the problem or find a landline telephone.

We found a temporary apartment this month and will move to school apartment by Septermber 3. We're fortunate engouth to have a roommate from Computer Science so we got lots of information. The weather here is not bad. It's hot during the day time, if you're under the sunshine. Low humidity, and low temperature at night. We'll walk to the supermarket with 25 minutes, so we take the supermarket's cart back to the aparment.

Unlike Chicago or some cities in west coast ,there are seldom Chinese people at Salt Lake City. The city is very very small despite that it's state capital. We almost go everywhere on foot. But anyway it's not a good expericence to walk under the sun, so we decide to buy a car as soon as possible once we settle down in the school apartment.

I'll keep you updated. And again, just let them know we're fine.

Best,
Wei

Farewell from Liu, Wei (David)

Hello Everyone-

Today is my last working day in Lucent and I'd like to say goodbye to all of you my friends. I have worked with LU since year 2004, as a feature tester for Global adaptive feature group. I tested features for Verizon, Sprint PCS, Metro PCS, China Unicom, India Reliance, Skylink Russia, Alltel Comm., and some customers in Asia Pacific. I had a wonderful experience being a tester at Lucent. Now for the new career goal I'll quit Lucent, and leave Nanjing. I came to some of you for a goodbye yesterday and this morning, though didn’t get chance to meet everyone. But I'm sure we'll meet somewhere else in the future and time will tell.

Keep in touch. I'll use weiliu620@gmail.com as my permanent contact as long as Google continues its Gmail service. I guess my lucent email will soon be obsolete, so just drop any message to my Gmail address for any further communication.

Best Wishes,

David Liu
